Revisiting Japan as an adult

Holly visited Japan as a child. She’s half-Japanese, but spent most of her life in the States. She’s revisiting Japan from a whole new perspective. This time, as an adult. Does it feel different the second time around?

It was raining hard in the early morning, but this couple from Sunny California cleared the skies just in time for our tour in Asakusa. What a good sign!

It was right after Golden Week on a weekday, so the crowds weren’t as bad. It was a little chilly with some nice breeze.

We got some white strawberries and mochi to share on our way to Sensoji Temple.

The couple run a family business, so Holly got an amulet charm called “ofuda” in Japanese. (Something like this)

This will protect the business and keep it in good standing.

Getting to know yourself on a deeper level

Who are you really?? It’s written in your palms, why you are the way you are.

Connecting with cute animals

Holly chose to play with “Himawari” which means “sunflower” in Japanese (left photo). She was excited to come out of her cage, run around and get fed some jelly.

Asakusa Street Foods

  • White strawberries

  • Sweet Potato Chips

  • Matcha Ice cream

  • Raw Wagyu Rice Burger

“Can we try the white strawberries? We don’t have them in California…”

Absolutely!

The blue stuff on the mochi is white bean paste. They added ramune soda pop flavor, which is why it’s blue. It’s a limited edition flavor in time for the summer season.

We walked by the sweet potato stand… Jeff and I looked at each other… Him: “Should we?” Me: “Let’s! It’s really good!” You won’t be able to eat regular Lay’s chips again!

The green tea shop offered Matcha ice cream with bitterness levels from 1 to 7.

I always choose 7, which is the premium bc I’m extra like dat. I wanted them to try the real stuff.

Jeff and Holly played it safe and chose Level 3 and 4. It has more milk and sugar, so it tastes sweeter, but has less matcha leaves. What would you choose?

This is a great snack for those who are looking for protein. The Wagyu meat is more raw than cooked. The pre-frozen rice is grilled and is lathered in soy sauce so it’s crispy when served. Pairs great with wasabi!

Rickshaw time!

We stopped by the convenience store and got Sparkling Sake Mio, which Holly drank the entire bottle in 15 minutes! LOL! Jeff selected the Mega size Asahi Super Dry Beer. Go big or go home.

Gotta hydrate ya know?

“Bunny, where can I find bowls for ramen?”

Follow me!

She got her bowls. He got his knife. She got food sample keychains for the folks back home. Everyone is happy!

Kappabashi “Kitchen Town”

“When you’re choosing your knife, find one that best fits your grip. There is no brand that’s better than the other.”

According to the knife staff

Jeff grabbed one and he immediately knew… this is the one! He didn’t seem interested in other knives.

The palm reader was right. He is quick to make good decisions!

The day was still young. After dropping them off at Harajuku, it was time to say sayonara… Time flies by when you’re having fun!

Thank you Holly & Jeff for letting me show you around! Hope you enjoyed our adventures in Tokyo! Until next time <3
