Father’s Day Pt. 2 in Asakusa

Yesterday, we had fun in the modern area of Tokyo. Now it’s time to experience the traditional side of Tokyo.

The F. Family gets the Eugene Levy treatment as seen on travel show “The Reluctant Traveler.”

Sensoji Temple

Purification ritual and prayers at Sensoji Temple. Unfortunately, the omikuji spot that we filmed for the travel show was covered, so we went to the one indoors. Yes, it happens sometimes!

Love this shot!

Everyone was satisfied with theirs and took their omikuji (oracle fortunes) home!

Mitarashi Dango

The first thing on their bucket list was trying Mitarashi Dango (soy miso glaze mochi) like in the travel show. It is a mixture of salty and sweet.

Audrey had a different test in mind, but she was happy that she got to finally try it!

Tokyo Sky Tree Ramune Soda

Bodhi was thirsty and was attracted to the blue-colored Ramune Soda. Perfect for a hot summer day like this! He went straight for the cherry, smiled so big and ate the best part first with his eyes closed savoring every bite! The look on his face <3

What I was impressed about Bodhi was that he made sure every bite, every drop was finished before throwing it away to the best of his ability.

In Japanese culture, we teach our kids to not be wasteful and to show gratitude by finishing cleanly.

The food that was bought with our parent’s hard-earning salary, the product and ingredients that the farmers/producers etc. worked hard to manufacture and the presentation served by the shop staff. It takes a village!

Rickshaw Time

We did see Kei “the Rickshaw Guy” from the travel show that day! He was in the middle of training a staff and passed by.

Sugar Coated Strawberry

During their 30-minute rickshaw ride, Audrey sent me on a mission to get this candied strawberry, other known as “tanghulu." It is coated with Japanese strawberries. It gives a crunchy texture and very fun to eat.

At first, she didn’t know what it was called. We were playing ‘guessing game’ for a while and I finally got it!

After their ride was done, I gave her the stick and as I turned around… it was already devoured within seconds!

Thank god I took a photo beforehand!!!

Strawberry Smoothie

Taste-test? They tried strawberry smoothies from two different stores.

Audrey liked the one with frozen strawberries (right) and Bodhi liked the one with the ziplock bag (left).

Matcha Beer

Ron and I cheers to an awesome packed day. He was extremely happy that he was able to drink during the day… finally!

You deserve it! Cheers to Father’s Day!

He enjoyed a new refreshing taste and rejuvenated from the warm day. I personally love their non-sugar premium iced matcha. It is bitter, but you can also add milk or syrup. It has a lot of caffeine, but I am still able to sleep at night.

This is the matcha store where they sell all things matcha. From matcha soba noodles, matcha roll cakes, matcha tea leaves and tea bags, etc.

He couldn’t get enough of the capsule toy concept LOL

He’s so cute! He loves Nintendo.

These gacha-gacha machines are all over Japan. On the street, in the malls, at the train stations. There is no specific one that is better. Be sure to have some 100 yen coins prepared! Usually it’s about 300-500 yen per toy.

Got this for their dessert later…

I’m not sure if they like red bean paste. We didn’t try it during the tour, so I wanted them to try it while they were in Japan.

However, tummies were full so this is to be enjoyed at the hotel.

Mochi lasts up to a week and putting it in the fridge is not required.

What is this called? Strawberry Daifuku or Ichigo Daifuku

Shoe shopping at Onitsuka Tiger

The F. Family has a tradition where they all have matching brand name shoes.

Ron is a fan of Onitsuka Tiger and was in search of the “Mexican Sabot in Beige/Green” exclusively sold in Japan.

I made a phone call the day before to the Ginza location and reserved one in his size when we come and pick it up after the tour.

(Yes, we do do that for our guests at Cyber Bunny Tours).

The store is packed with foreign tourists and items were getting sold fast. It was crazy and hectic!

We were very lucky that day, that all three of them got a pair that they wanted in their size.

After the tour was done, the family went back to their hotel and spent the rest of their afternoon in the pool!

Thank you for a fun past two days!

Enjoy the rest of your summer break!

Keep in touch <3
