Picnic in Tokyo Midtown

Hollywood filmmaker flies in Tokyo to shoot a commercial and decides to spend his free day with Bunny

You may have seen his work in commercials before.

American director, photographer, cinematographer who produces ad campaigns for top brands like Victoria’s Secret, Vogue, L’Oreal, Coca-Cola, Elle etc. slipped into my DMs one day.

Joshua Steen is based in New York City. He travels around the world, and has met and worked with A-list celebrities such as Mariah Carey, Maddie Ziegler, the D’Amelio sisters, Kanye West, Beyoncé and so many more. I am surprised… this man wants to meet me?! the ”Hiragana Song girl” on Youtube??

Before Cyber Bunny, his line of work was my dream job. To be a world-wide cinematographer in music, fashion and beauty, expressing my creativity from behind the lens while meeting cool talented beautiful people. However, that all changed when I chose the path to be in front of the camera… and on Tiktok as an anime-girl dressed like a bunny posting about Unwritten Rules of Japan. Either one is ok with me!

So what did a legend like him do on CB’s tour?

This was a special case. Josh have seen and done that. Instead of a tour, I prepared a picnic for him in Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi. It was a beautiful sunny day in May. He was looking to connect with another weird creative soul, so we chatted over an unagi (eel) bento, high balls and sparkling sake, which he loved. His sixth sense knows that I am slowly building my empire, so he wanted to dig deep and see the “Real Cyber Bunny” underneath all the bunny ears. I shared a few dark secrets of my past that I haven’t shared online.

Children’s Day was that weekend, so the town was decorated with koi (Japanese fish/carps) symbolizing strength and good fortune.

Two and a half hours flew by and it felt like we were best friends in another life. We shared our beginnings, our struggles and challenges, our work that we love, our passions and our dreams. It was a very wholesome picnic.

We had a mission… SHOP TIL YOU DROP!

Josh wanted me to be his shopping assistant. He doesn’t have a lot of time, so he needed gifts for moms, kids, a teenage girl, grandmother and friends. His special request was that he was looking for crystals and Japanese beauty products.

We shopped inside the department store and got a few high quality chopsticks, and then hopped into the Bunny Mobile to the nearest Don Qi Xote. It felt like we were in a Cyber Punk + Fast N’ Furious movie on a scavenger hunt cascading through Tokyo. Once we’ve secured the face masks and Shiba Inu pencil cases, we hopped into the Bunny Mobile to Shibuya.

Josh needs to get his comfort zone… “pushed”

This was his first time. But since he seemed like the adventurous type, I thought this may be a fun activity to do. He was very culture-shocked to see his face very filtered! You can find the purikura booths at the basement floor in Shibuya 109. Don’t forget to bring 100 yen coins!

Don’t we look kawaii though?

Pick your crystals

Since the staff at the crystal shop do not speak English, it was my duty as shopping assistant, to help translate and look for the perfect rock. Josh specified it had to be a small smooth rock that will bring out inner confidence. The staff grabbed the entire stack and did some magic with smoke to select the perfect one. I’ve never seen a store do this before. Usually the customer picks whatever one they like and pay out at the register.

I am into tarot cards, fortune telling and crystals. I believe in energy, karma and manifesting, so I do everything out of “feeling” and not by logic, which gets me in trouble sometimes…

Mission accomplished!

We checked everything off our bucket list! It was time to say good-bye, so we dropped Josh off at his hotel before it got dark. I have a feeling we will meet again somewhere. Who knows?

Give me some time to be a millionaire first, and I’ll fly over to NYC asap for sure!!

Thank you Josh for squeezing me in your busy schedule! I’ll be looking out for your work on the big screens! Rooting you on from Tokyo <3
